Casein (Galalith) Plastic Sheet & Rod
Galalith — also known as casein plastic — is one of the earliest synthetic materials, made from milk protein and formaldehyde. It was widely used for buttons, jewellery and decorative objects from the early 1900s, and its warm, organic feel and beautiful mottled patterning make it highly sought-after by restorers, pen turners, knife makers and jewellery designers today.
We stock galalith sheets and rod from Incudo and Turners' Mill in patterns including calico and crackle finishes. The material machines, sands and polishes beautifully, and takes a high-gloss finish with fine abrasives.
Stock is limited and patterns vary — galalith is no longer mass-produced, so what we have is what's available. If you're looking for a specific colour or pattern, get in touch and we'll let you know what's currently in stock.
