Wood turning blanks in the three formats that cover most lathe work: bowl, spindle and pen. Supplied from Turners' Mill and other specialist UK sources. Whether you're throwing your first bowl or running a batch of pens, the right blank for the job is here.
Bowl blanks come in larger square-faced sections sized for bowls, platters and hollow forms; pick a face diameter a comfortable margin larger than your finished piece. Spindle blanks are longer, narrower pieces for chair legs, tool handles, balusters, finials and architectural detail, sized by length and cross-section. Pen blanks are the small-diameter stock used for pen kits, bottle stoppers and small turned objects, often sold in matched pairs.
The species range covers native UK timbers including oak, ash, beech, sycamore and cherry, plus figured and exotic species when stock allows. The other thing to check before you buy is the seasoning state. Rough-sawn green blanks turn beautifully but move as they dry, while sealed or part-dried blanks are more stable for finished work. Each product page tells you what state the blank is in; if anything's unclear, ask before you buy rather than after.
