The range covers bowl blanks (the chunky stock you start a bowl, hollow form or platter from), spindle blanks (longer, narrower pieces for chair legs, tool handles, balusters and architectural turning), and pen blanks (small-diameter stock sized for pen and small-turnery kits). A few notes worth knowing when picking blanks. Bowl blanks are sold by face diameter and depth, so pick a blank a comfortable margin larger than the finished bowl size. Pen blanks are typically supplied in matched pairs or sets for production runs. Whether a blank is rough-sawn, sealed or part-dried makes a real difference to how it turns and how much it'll move as it dries.
